According to the U.S. Navy 7th Fleet, the USS John S. McCain on August 21 collided with a Liberian-registered tanker in the Malacca Straits off Singapore.
It was only last month that another Yokosuka-based Aegis destroyer, the USS Fitzgerald, collided with a container vessel off the coast of Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, killing seven crewmembers. The 7th Fleet has already had four accidents involving Aegis ships this year.
