Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on January 15 met with South African Ambassador to Japan Thulani Dlomo at the JCP head office in Tokyo.
The two agreed to strengthen relations between the JCP and South Africa and work together for the abolition of nuclear weapons.
Dlomo expressed his gratitude for the JCP’s decades-long support for the antiapartheid struggle. He conveyed to Shii messages of friendship from Cyril Ramaphosa, who heads the ruling African National Congress, and Jacob Zuma, South Africa’s president.
Shii referred to the South African government’s efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons. Shii noted that the South African government abolished its nuclear weapons arsenal, made an important contribution to realizing the African Nuclear Weapon-Free-Zone Treaty, and played a role in the adoption of the UN treaty banning nuclear weapons.
The ambassador expressed his wish to promote relations between his government and the embassy in Tokyo and the JCP as well as to promote cooperation and communication with the JCP in regard to the total elimination of nuclear weapons.
