JCP not to take part in ceremony commemorating 120th anniversary of parliament
|
The Japanese Communist Party has announced that it will not participate in the ceremony to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the parliament. The following is a comment made by JCP Diet Policy Commission Chair Kokuta Keiji.
The JCP has insisted that Japan’s parliamentary history must be recognized as being divided into two eras: the era of the prewar Imperial Diet which was a supportive organ of the absolutist imperial system, and the era of the postwar Diet working as the supreme organ of the state representing the people as sovereigns.
Based on this history, we have not taken part in past ceremonies commemorating the 100th and 110th anniversaries of the founding of the parliament since they lacked historical recognition of the two distinct systems. We will also be absent from the latest ceremony since it is also to commemorate parliamentary history that include the prewar imperial diet.
