JCP is positive about discussing cooperation with 2nd largest opposition party in Upper House election
|
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on September 6 at a press conference said that the JCP is willing to hold "discussions in good faith" with the Democratic Party for the People (DPFP) toward opposition parties' cooperation in the Upper House election in the summer of next year.
Two days earlier, at another press conference, Tamaki Yuichiro who was recently chosen to head the DPFP, the second largest opposition party after the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan led by Edano Yukio, mentioned the need to coordinate negotiations among opposition parties including the JCP to field a joint opposition candidate in single-seat constituencies in next year's national election.
Shii, asked by reporters for comments on Tamaki's suggestion, said, "We'd be happy to hold discussions with other opposition parties, focusing on the revocation of the national security-related legislation as our common ground."
