The Japanese Communist Party and the Democratic Party for the People on September 18 agreed to work to have an extraordinary Diet session convened in order to discuss measures to support recovery from a series of natural disasters, including the onslaught of recent quakes, typhoons, and heavy rains.
On this day, JCP Chair Shii Kazuo and Secretariat Head Koike Akira received a visit from the newly-elected DPFP leadership led by new party leader Tamaki Yuichi in the JCP anteroom in the Diet building.
In the meeting, the two leaders agreed that a supplementary budget should be drawn up to promote the reconstruction of regions and people’s livelihoods damaged by a chain of recent natural disasters such as the Osaka earthquake in June. In this regard, they agreed that in collaboration with other opposition parties, they will urge the Abe Cabinet to convene an extraordinary Diet session without delay.
In addition to Shii and Koike, JCP leadership members who received the DPFP visit included Vice chairs Ichida Tadayoshi, Tamura Tomoko, and Yamashita Yoshiki, Policy Commission Chair Kasai Akira, and Diet Policy Commission Chair Kokuta Keiji.
