This week's JCP international activity

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on December 3 received a visit from South African Ambassador to Japan Thulani Dlomo at the JCP head office in Tokyo and talked about cooperation needed to promote the UN treaty banning nuclear weapons.

They both praised the solidarity each side has long maintained on issues such as anti-apartheid and anti-nuclear weapons.

South Africa was awarded a UN Security Council non-permanent seat and will start its 2-year term in 2019.

Ambassador Dlomo, regarding the South African role in the UNSC, said that his country will be committed to maintaining and developing world peace by following the wishes of Nelson Mandela who would have turned 100 years old this year. The ambassador also explained his country's aspiration for institutional reform in the present UNSC which gives top priority to the interests of the major powers.

Shii said that all UN member states, both large and small, should have equal rights and expressed his desire for institutional reform of the UNSC and for an increase in the UNGA authority so that the democratic principles of the UN can strictly be protected.

JCP Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo was also present at this meeting.
