Ex-professor singles out moneygrubbing ex-president for missing foreign students

April 11, 2019
A former professor at a Tokyo-based college, at a press conference held in the Education Ministry building on April 10, singled out the moneygrubbing former college president as the cause of the "disappearance" of a large number of foreign students.

At this college, about 1,400 overseas students have gone missing over the past three years. The founder and ex-president of the college is Nakajima Tsuneo, who was sentenced two years in jail for sexual assault in 2008. Nakajima, even after his release, took control of the college.

Former professor Tajima Seiichi said that a meeting was convened on September 21, 2011, in the president's office at the Ikebukuro campus. Tajima showed the press corps the meeting minutes taken on that occasion where the former president talked about his scheme to make 12 billion yen by targeting foreign students.

According to the minutes, the ex-president said, "This is a 4-year scheme to amass a great deal of money. Twelve billion yen may come in to our college, and the college would then become larger than a university." In a high-handed manner, he continued to say, "This is lucrative. Why aren't you interested? Hey, I'm asking you!" adding, "The money will simply roll right in with this scheme!"

Tajima also accused the former president of forcing through dismissals and demotions of teaching staff in succession following his 2-year imprisonment. Tajima pointed out that the former president wanted to show off his management ability, and criticized him for abusing his power over personnel affairs.
