NPP contractor falsified workers' medical checkup results

October 14, 2021

A contracting firm at Japan Atomic Power Co's Tokai Daini Nuclear Power Plant (Tokai Village, Ibaraki Pref.) falsified employees' medical checkup results without actually giving them medical examinations pertaining to ionizing radiation, according to three employees of the firm at a press conference on October 13.

The firm in question obtained contracts for plumbing work ahead of the restart of Tokai Daini NPP operations. The three employees said they will seek criminal charges against the firm's representative director on suspicion of forging sealed documents.

According to the three workers, the company did not give medical examinations to workers who entered radiation controlled areas as required by law and made up the examination results by using fake signature seals of industrial physicians.

The three said, "Many workers, out of fear of losing their jobs, said nothing. We hope that this action can be of help to them."

Last month, they visited Japanese Communist Party member of the Ibaraki Prefectural Assembly Ejiri Kana to ask advice as to what to do in regard to the forgery of the medical checkup results. Ejiri during the assembly session on October 12 demanded that the Ibaraki prefectural government instruct the company to abide by safety management provisions.
