JCP proposal reflected in 'Istanbul Declaration'
|
The 11th general assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) ended on November 19 after unanimously adopting the "Istanbul Declaration".
After the statement was adopted, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo in his greeting to ICAPP Chair Chung Eui-yong said, "I am glad to see that this declaration was adopted and our proposal is reflected in the declaration."
The JCP proposal is as follows:
Proposal of the JCP Delegation to the Draft Declaration by the 11th General Assembly of ICAPP
We propose points that we would like to see addressed and reflected in the General Assembly Declaration.
1. Deeply concerned by the situation in Ukraine, the General Assembly, in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, requests that a peaceful resolution be reached through political dialogue, negotiations, mediation and other peaceful means.
2. The General Assembly expresses its determination never to wage war in Asia and to resolve disputes peacefully and politically in accordance with the UN Charter and the principles of international law. The General Assembly endorses the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) adopted at its 2019 Summit. Strengthening the East Asia Summit (EAS) as an inclusive peace framework for all countries in the region, and eventually envisioning an East Asia-wide treaty of amity and cooperation, is the way to create an Asia without fear of war.
3. The General Assembly, deeply concerned about the devastating humanitarian consequences of the use of nuclear weapons, calls for their absolute avoidance. The General Assembly welcomes the entry into force of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and the holding of the first meeting of the Conference of the States Parties to the Treaty, and reaffirms its commitment to "a world without nuclear weapons," which has been reiterated at previous ICAPP General Assemblies.
