Shii sends condolences on death of ex-chief minister of West Bengal

Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on August 17 sent a telegram of condolences upon the death of former Chief Minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, a politburo member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist, CPIM).

Shii in his telegram wrote, “I remember well my meeting with him, exchanging views on ways to reduce poverty, improve people’s livelihoods, and advance democracy. I express my deep respect for his many years of work as a communist.”

Bhattacharjee met with Fuwa Tetsuzo, then JCP CC chair, in 2001 in Japan, and Shii Kazuo, then JCP EC chair, in 2002 in India.
