Yamazoe participates in rally in solidarity with Myanmar citizens

January 24, 2025

Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors Yamazoe Taku on January 23 took part in a rally in solidarity with Myanmar citizens’ resistance to the military regime and their campaign for democracy.

Four years have passed since the military coup in Myanmar. The “Religionists Network to Build Peace” held the rally at the Upper House Members’ Office Building to convey their message “Peace cannot be created by armed repression!” to the people of Myanmar.

Yamazoe, commenting on the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump, said, “Trump’s xenophobia is undermining the global effort that has been made to protect human rights, establish democracy, and build peace. Is it right for Japan to blindly follow the U.S.? We should continue to question the stance of the Japanese government.”

Myint Swe, president of the “Federation of Workers’ Union of the Burmese Citizen in Japan (FWUBC - Japan)”, reported on the current situation in Myanmar. He said that many people are forced to flee their homes due to military attacks and repression, and that without enough food or shelter, they are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. He added, “We don’t want war and violence. We want to restore peace and democracy. Please support us.”

Ono Bunko of the Religionists Network said, “The world is heading in a dangerous direction. Now is the time to turn our prayers for peace into action.”
