2nd-half round of local elections begins

The latter half of the simultaneous nationwide local elections was officially announced on April 17. The Japanese Communist Party will campaign for a victory of all its 1,229 candidates towards the voting day on April 24.

The elections are taking place in Tokyo’s 21 wards, 328 cities, and 377 towns and villages throughout Japan.

The JCP is putting up 134 candidates in the 21 Tokyo wards (the JCP currently holds 123 seats), 761 in 291 cities (720 seats), and 334 in 255 towns and villages (312 seats), totaling 1,229 candidates (1,155 seats).

The JCP will place emphasis on gaining a seat in five cities and 24 towns and villages which at present have no JCP seat occupied in their assemblies.
