Women’s group collects 126,000 signatures to stop nuclear energy

The New Japan Women’s Association (NJWA) on November 14 submitted to the Diet, through the Japanese Communist Party, about 126,000 signatures in support of petitions calling for withdrawal from nuclear power generation and a drastic change in atomic energy administration.
The submitted petitions were of two kinds: a petition demanding zero nuclear power plants through swift withdrawal from nuclear power generation; and a petition urging the government to drastically revise its atomic energy administration and to utilize sustainable and renewable energy sources based on lessons learned from the Fukushima nuclear accident.
NJWA members have collected signatures from people on various occasions such as rallies and street campaigns calling for a non-NPP Japan and at study meetings regarding atomic energy. The NJWA in July also submitted to the Diet the same petitions with about 20,000 signatures.
