2012 March 14 - 20 [NUCLEAR CRISIS]

546 evacuated families file complaint to receive TEPCO compensation

March 13, 2012
Lawyers representing 546 evacuated families of Minamisoma City in Fukushima Prefecture have announced that they will file a complaint with a state-established organization demanding that Tokyo Electric Power Co. pay proper compensation for nuclear damages caused by the Fukushima accident.

They are families from the Odaka district, 20 km away from the crippled nuclear power plant, where all 3,700 households were evacuated to various locations throughout Japan because Minamisoma City was designated as a “no-entry zone” after the Fukushima accident occurred.

In the complaint, the families demand an increase in monthly compensation payments for emotional stress and trauma to 300,000 yen per person from the current 100,000 yen and compensation for loss of earnings and in value of real estate.

Following the 546 families, many other Odaka district families will file complaints, the lawyers said.
