Shii meets with Chinese ambassador

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on March 22 visited Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua at the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo to hand over a JCP statement calling for the cancellation of North Korea’s plan to launch a “rocket”.

Shii stated that the “rocket” launch plan is in violation of the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1874 adopted in 2009 and runs counter to efforts to resume the Six-Party Talks.

The international community should calmly deal with this matter, Shii stressed.

The ambassador told Shii that the Chinese government has already expressed its concern over the matter in question and is working for peace and stability in the region in coordination with relevant countries.

On March 19, Shii had a luncheon meeting at the Chinese embassy at the invitation of the ambassador.

The two exchanged views on Japan-China ties marking the 40th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations as well as on the situation in East Asia.
