Nuclear energy businesses also funded NSC members

Members of the Nuclear Safety Commission (NSC) who examine new safety standards at nuclear power plants received at least 33.47 million yen from NPP-related corporations and organizations over the past 5 years, Akahata revealed on April 11.
They include university professors and 6 out of 29 members of the NSC’s Special Committee on Nuclear Safety Standards.
During the period between FY 2006 and 2010, they received a total of 7 million yen from nuclear reactor manufacturer Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and 12.74 million yen from the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum.
Donators include organizations related to Kansai Electric Power Co. (KEPCO), such as the Institute of Nuclear Safety System, Inc. KEPCO is the operator of the Oi NPP in Fukui Prefecture which the government is now rushing to reactivate.
