P.E.N. Club opposes restart of Oi NPP

The Japan P.E.N. Club, representing about 2,000 writers, on April 20 published a statement in protest against the restart of offline reactors at the Oi nuclear power plant in Fukui Prefecture.
The statement pointed out that while the cause of the Fukushina nuclear accident has not been fully investigated, “the safety approval of other reactors only based on computer simulated stress tests cannot be trusted.”
It criticizes the government for confirming the “safety” based on the evaluations of the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA), a strong proponent of nuclear power generation.
It demanded that the government conduct a full-fledged investigation regarding the nuclear accident in Fukushima, create a concrete roadmap for the decommissioning of all domestic nuclear reactors, and set a course for research and development of renewable energy.
