Fuwa meets China’s party training institute deputy head

October 30, 2008
Fuwa Tetsuzo, Japanese Communist Party Social Sciences Institute director, met with Li Jingtian, the executive president of the Party School of the Communist Party of China, at the JCP head office on October 29.

Their meeting was the first since August 2002, when the two had talks in Beijing on issues of party building. Li at the time was in charge of party organizational affairs. .

Li said that China is making efforts to build socialism amid the complex domestic and international situation by maintaining the fundamental theory of Marxism while at the same time taking into account the actual conditions in China.

He asked Fuwa to explain the JCP view on the present world situation, its outlook for the communist movement, and possible developments of Marxism based on historical and situational changes.

Fuwa pointed out that the western media hailed the triumph of capitalism after the collapse of the Soviet Union, but that Marx is regaining their attention now when the world is in a financial crisis.

He said that the task now is to make an independent effort to develop the theory and movement with a deep understanding of the theory of scientific socialism (Marxism) in the light of national conditions.

Li and Fuwa exchanged opinions on some theoretical questions, including those concerning ways to achieve socialism through a market economy, such as the roles to be played by foreign and private companies in socialist market economies.
