The Japan Council against A and H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) delegation petitioning the United Nations for the abolition of nuclear weapons on October 11 participated in an anti-war rally held in Boston and collected signatures in support of the signature drive, “For a Nuclear Weapons-Free World”.
About 3,000 veterans, students, and citizens took part in the rally.
Gensuikyo Secretary-General Taka Hiroshi in a speech stated, “Freedom and democracy that are U.S. ideals are being tarnished by the Bush administration. But today, it is the peace movements and citizens against war that represent the U.S. conscience.”
“In Japan, public anger is rapidly increasing at the attempt to adversely revise the constitution in subservience to the U.S. government”, he added.
Taka called on the participants to join efforts in the new signature campaign, “For a Nuclear Weapons-Free World”. “Let us step up our efforts to achieve a nuclear weapons-free world in the work in preparation for the 2010 NPT Review Conference.”
