|
In the Fukushima’s Iwaki City Assembly election on September 9, the Japanese Communist Party succeeded in maintaining its 4 seats while the fixed number of assembly seats was decreased by 3 from 40.
The JCP’s shares of vote increased from the previous election by 1.63 percent point to 10.36%.
The election got broad attention as a major local election held in the 3.11-hit cities after the Noda government reactivated nuclear reactors at the Oi plant and forcibly enacted the consumption tax hike bill.
As a result of the election, in the 37-seat city assembly, the Democratic Party of Japan occupies 2 seats (down from 3), the Liberal Democratic 16 (down by 4), the Komei party 4 (up from 3), the Social Democratic Party 2, and 9 independents.
