JCP chair meets with Mexican ambassador to Japan

September 14, 2012
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on September 13 met with Mexican Ambassador to Japan Claude Heller on his courtesy visit to the JCP head office.

“Nice to see you again, we met in Hiroshima this summer at the conference against atomic bombs,” Shii opened a conversation with a warm welcome and said that the speech the ambassador gave at the conference was impressive as it pointed to the vacuity of nuclear deterrence theory and stressed the importance of the role of civil society to realize the abolition of nuclear weapons.

Shii then expressed his appreciation for the message of support sent from Mexican President Felipe Calderon to the annual anti-atomic bomb conference.

The ambassador said that his attendance at the conference and the visit to Hiroshima and Nagasaki had been a great experience, and stated that the government of Mexico has maintained its position calling for nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation and seeks peaceful solutions to conflicts.

Responding to the ambassador’s questions, Shii gave a brief explanation of the political situation in Japan and Northeast Asia as well as the JCP’s diplomatic activities.

The ambassador spoke of his experience dealing with the Northeast Asian situation when he presided over the U.N. Security Council as the Mexican U.N. ambassador. He also talked about the recently held presidential election and domestic situation in Mexico.
