In Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture, about 350 farmers on August 23 held a rally sponsored by JA-Zenchu Ehime.
An official from the JA group said, “Farmers are trying to cut as much cost as possible but they cannot overcome the present crisis by themselves. They need help from the government to continue low-cost farming and achieve financial stability.”
Participants, including mandarin orange and vegetable producers, said they are deeply concerned about the fact that the majority of remaining farmers are aging and about the possible collapse of the regional farming.
