Tokyo labor board orders condo maintenance company to negotiate with union

December 15, 2012
The Tokyo Labor Relations Commission on December 12 issued an order that a condominium maintenance management company should respond to a union’s request to hold collective bargain sessions.

Daiward Co. Ltd., in September 2006 announced its plan to increase working hours and change company rules related to paid holidays and retirement allowances.

Some employees joined the All Japan Construction, Transport and General Workers’ Union (Kenkoro) and called on the company to negotiate in regard to the cancellation of the plan and the demand for a pay increase.

As the company refused to enter into collective bargaining with the union, it filed a complaint with the labor commission.

Daiward carries out the business of the maintenance and administration of condominiums. Under a contract with a condominium association, the company offers various services such as daily maintenance, equipment maintenance, and support for administers of the association.
