US marine arrested for trespassing

A drunken marine was arrested for trespassing onto an apartment in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture.

At around 4 a.m. on December 28, the serviceman allegedly entered a veranda of the apartment. He ran away when a resident saw him and was caught by police on a nearby street.

The Headquarters of the U.S. Forces in Japan have been imposing a curfew from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on all U.S. servicemen in Japan since the rape of a Japanese woman by U.S. sailors in Okinawa in October 2012. However, U.S. crimes continue unabated.

On the same day, the Japanese Communist Party Okinawa Prefectural Committee visited the prefectural office and demanded that the local government officially protest against the case to the USFJ as well as to the Japanese and the U.S. governments.

JCP member of the Okinawa Prefectural Assembly Maeda Masaaki said, “Crimes by U.S. servicemen continue to occur. It clearly indicates that the curfew is not being strictly enforced. The only way to eliminate U.S. military crimes is to remove all the U.S. bases from the prefecture.” Maeda urged that the prefectural government forcefully respond to these illegal acts.
