Ogata talks with ex-Mozambican diplomat

Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo on April 4 held talks with Armando Panguene, former deputy minister of foreign affairs of the first Mozambican government following independence, at the JCP head office in Tokyo.

Ogata talked about sea changes that took place in the post-WWII era such as the collapse of colonialism, the adoption of a global consensus against unlawful wars, and the aspiration to create a peaceful world order based on the U.N. Charter. He also touched on the present challenges to peace in Asia.

The ex-diplomat talked about the national liberation struggle and the civil war in the post-independence years in Mozambique as well as other issues concerning Africa and the Middle East.

He is visiting Japan at the invitation of the Japan Asia Africa Latin America Solidarity Committee (Japan AALA). He participated in the 1972 World Conference against A and H Bombs as a delegate of the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (FRELIMO) which had fought for Mozambique’s independence from Portugal.
