US servicemen arrested in Okinawa and Yokosuka

Two U.S. servicemen were arrested on suspicion of trespassing in Okinawa and Kanagawa prefectures respectively from before daylight to the early hours of May 5. Police said that they were both drunk.

Around 7:25 a.m. on that day, a Japanese woman living in an apartment in Okinawa City called the police when she found a strange foreigner entering her room.

The Okinawa Police arrested Mario A. Romero, a 38-year-old chief petty officer at the U.S. Kadena base, on a charge of house breaking.

According to the police, the suspect denied entering her apartment, while admitting that he had been drinking on the base the night before.

About 2:00 a.m. on the same day, a Japanese man living in Kanagawa’s Yokosuka City reported to the police that a drunken man was in his garden.

The Yokosuka Police apprehended Weitz J. James, a 20-year-old first-class seaman at the U.S. Yokosuka Naval Base, on suspicion of trespassing.

The police said that the seaman stated that he had mistaken the house for his friend’s.

When police officers rushed to the scene, the sailor was found to be crouching in the garden. They detected 0.2 milligram of alcohol per liter on his breath.
