Disabled woman’s court victory to be confirmed
|
The Hirakata City government on May 2 announced that it will not appeal against the Osaka District Court’s ruling that recognized as illegal the city’s rejection of welfare benefits for a disabled woman because she owned a car.
Plaintiff Sato Kiyoko at a news conference said, “From today, people on welfare like me can freely drive their own cars. I’m so happy about that.”
Her lawyers and supporters on the same day issued a joint statement which welcomes the city’s decision and calls on the city office to improve its administration of the social welfare program.
