|
Thanks to the major victory it achieved in the 2012 general election, the amount of government subsidy to the Liberal Democratic Party increased by 43.3% from last year, while the amount to the former ruling Democratic Party of Japan decreased by 48.3%.
The Internal Affairs Ministry on May 16 determined the amount of allocations of public funds to the nine political parties that applied for this year’s government subsidies.
The government subsidy of 14.55 billion yen, a 43.3% increase from last year, will go to the LDP and 8.53 billion yen, a 48.3% decrease from the last year, to the DPJ.
The Japan Restoration Party, the People’s Life Party, and Green Wind will for the first time obtain state funding of 2.7 billion yen, 816 million yen, and 138 million yen, respectively.
The government will distribute 2.55 billion yen in tax money to the Komei Party, 1.78 billion yen to the Your party, 541 million yen to the Social Democratic Party, and 124 million yen to the New Renaissance Party.
The Japanese Communist Party refuses to receive government subsidies and has since its inception demanded the abolition of the subsidy system as it is in violation of the Constitution.
