Shii in CC Plenum calls on all party branches to bring in new members
|
The Japanese Communist Party Central Committee held its 8th Plenum on September 18 at the JCP head office in Tokyo, approving the motion for a party congress to be convened early next year and adopting a resolution calling on all party branches to have at least one new member by the next Congress.
Regarding the victory the JCP achieved in the July House of Councilors election in which 5.15 million people voted for the party, the resolution adopted at the 8th CC Plenum stresses the need to squarely face up to the fact that the election outcome went “beyond our actual strength”.
The resolution points out that the number of JCP supporters, total JCP membership, and Akahata readership all fell short of exceeding the numbers in the period of the 2010 Upper House race, and that despite these negative elements, the party showed the successful result thanks to everyone’s all-out efforts.
Furthermore, the failed attempt to establish a 2-party system worked in favor of the JCP, the resolution concludes.
In order to bring the electoral victory into a genuine “third tide of advance” (following the1970s and the late 1990s), the resolution sets a goal of adding a new member in every party branch by the end of January and of recovering the number of Akahata subscribers to or surpassing the level when the last Congress was held in January 2010.
The 26th Congress will take place on January 15-18 in 2014.
