The National Confederation of Trade Unions (Zenroren) on November 20 held a reception to mark its 20th founding anniversary, attended by 550 people representing various social organizations.
Zenroren was founded on November 21, 1989 with the aim of establishing a foothold for a unified class-based, democratic trade union movement in opposition to the right-wing reorganization of the labor front that was underway at the time.
Zenroren President Daikoku Sakuji in his speech looked back on the 20 years of the movement in which Zenroren has been playing an important role by firmly standing for workers’ demands as well as for progressive social progress.
“We will continue to play our role of promoting the creation of a bright future in solidarity with the public,” Daikoku said.
Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi spoke on behalf of the party, praising Zenroren for its role not just in the interests of workers but as a liaison to foster public cooperation.
