2013 October 23 - 29 [LABOR]

Two national trade union centers will team up to block adverse revision of labor laws

October 24, 2013
Japan’s two national trade union centers and independent unions on October 23 held a rally in the Upper House Members’ Office Building and resolved to wage various joint actions, such as street campaigns and rallies, in order to hamper Prime Minister Abe’s intent to adversely revise labor laws.

In the rally, Kanazawa Hiroshi, President of the National Trade Union Council, one of the two national trade union centers, stressed, “It is unacceptable for the government to change labor regulations to free corporations from current regulations disallowing unfair labor practices.”

From the other national center, National Confederation of Trade Unions (Zenroren) Secretary General Odagawa Yoshikazu said that there is the argument that the more the job market is deregulated, the more job opportunities are created, but, this argument is groundless.

Together with other guest speakers including the vice president of the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, Japanese Communist Party Lower House member Takahashi Chizuko and Upper House members Tamura Tomoko and Kira Yoshiko delivered speeches. Parliamentarians of the Democratic and Social Democratic parties also took part in the rally.
