Two drunken U.S. servicemen were arrested by the police in Kanagawa Prefecture.
A Petty Officer Second Class belonging to the U.S. Atsugi Naval Base at around 2:40 a.m. on January 12 trespassed on a porch of a three-story apartment building in Zama City and was arrested. Alcohol was detected on the breath of the seaman.
The city government on the same day expressed regret over the matter and called on the Atsugi base and the South Kanto Defense Bureau to tighten discipline and take measures to prevent recurrence.
On January 14 at 1:35 a.m., another drunken seaman was arrested for trespassing. The Chief Petty Officer belonging to the U.S. Yokosuka Naval Base was found sleeping in a shed at a house in Yokosuka City.
Later on the same day, Yokosuka City demanded that the U.S. military enforce strict official discipline, improve alcohol education programs, and install measures to prevent recurrence.
