LDP Dietmember: Japanese Constitution contravenes ‘itself’
|
In a meeting of the House of Councilors Commission on the Constitution held on February 26, pro-constitutional-revision lawmakers made remarks which raise doubts in regard to their understanding of democracy and the supreme law.
Liberal Democratic Party Upper House member Akaike Masaaki said, “The Japanese Constitution runs counter to the concept of the supreme law of the land.”
He, however, could not clarify what he meant by that.
Akaike also made the following remarks: “The occupation forces’ policy of preventing Japanese people from seeking to obtain power to defend their nation resulted in the war-renouncing Article 9 of the Constitution;” “With influence of the 1936 Soviet Constitution, known as Stalin’s Constitution, communistic ideas were incorporated (in the Japanese Constitution) as Articles 24 and 27;” and “It is shameful that (the Constitution) remains unchanged.”
Other political party representatives called on him to take part in deliberations on basic historical facts and basic knowledge on laws.
Meanwhile, Your Party lawmaker Wada Masamune said, “The Constitution of the Great Empire of Japan is awesome because it was established by the Japanese people’s own efforts.”
