Fuwa Tetsuzo, director of the Social Sciences Institute of the Japanese Communist Party, gave the first of a two-part lecture about the contemporary relevance of Karl Marx at the University of Tokyo Komaba Campus on October 30. The second half of the presentation will be given on November 6.
About 500 students attended the seminar entitled, “Marx is alive and well”, sponsored by the Democratic Youth League of Japan’s Tokyo University-Komaba branch and its organizing committee.
Focusing on the question of why it is important to read Marx’s works in the context of the present-day world, Fuwa emphasized that this will help make life more socially relevant by accurately understanding the state of the 21st world and analyzing society and nature in their entirety in order to have a broader perspective when studying academic subjects.
