Hit-and-run case involving US serviceman sent to prosecutors

Okinawa Police on May 21 announced that it sent the alleged hit and run case involving a 41-year-old U.S. Marine Corps major assigned to Camp Courtney to prosecutors.

According to the police, John Jeonghoon Ahn was driving a car and hit a minibike in Okinawa City late last year and then fled the scene. The victim on the bike was later found unconscious in critical condition but he is recovering now.

The suspect was, the police said, on the way from his home in Camp Kinser to Camp Courtney. No alcohol was detected. The cause of the accident was thought to be Ahn’s failure to keep his eyes on the road.
