Yamashita welcomes local actions for putting up ‘unified opposition candidates’

December 8, 2015
Japanese Communist Party Secretariat Head Yamashita Yoshiki on December 7 in the Diet building said to reporters that he welcomes emerging local movements seeking to put up unified candidates backed by opposition parties in single-seat constituencies in the House of Councilors election to be held in July.

Yamashita went on to say, “Political parties, civil organizations, and individuals are now making joint efforts to abolish the war legislation and restore constitutionalism. It is welcoming that under this situation, many citizens have begun taking actions to give a “red card” to the Liberal Democratic and Komei parties which bulldozed through the war legislation in the coming Upper House election.” He expressed the party’s determination to work hard to support those actions.

Asked about an agreement between the Democratic and Japan Innovation parties on forming a parliamentary coalition group, Yamashita said, “The JCP will work in cooperation with that parliamentary group on various issues in the Diet if needed.”
