Ogata meets with Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament Vice Secretary General Chen
|
On March 2, Japanese Communist Party Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo had lunch in Tokyo with Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD) Vice Secretary General Chen Duming, who took part in the March 1 Bikini Day National Rally in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Concerning the event of the Japan Council against A and H Bombs (Gensuikyo), Chen said he was impressed by the fact that Japan’s movement for a total ban on nuclear weapons over the past half century has not only increased its influence among various strata of the public in Japan but also actively tried to reach out to the rest of the world.
He explained the policy, activities, and foreign relations of the association as an NGO in China.
In response to Chen’s question, Ogata outlined the current political situation as well as the peace movement in Japan.
Both exchanged views on Japan-China relations and the Northeast Asian situation, including issues related to North Korea and Taiwan.
Chen attended the JCP 23rd Congress in 2004 as a guest when he was a division director of the Communist Party of China International Department.
