JCP holds meeting with Laos’ ruling party
A meeting between the Japanese Communist Party and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party took place on June 1 and 2 at the JCP head office in Tokyo. The LPRP delegation was headed by Sounthone Xayachack, member of the LPRP Central Committee and chairperson of the party’s Committee for External Relation.
The four-member LPRP delegation visited Japan at the invitation of the JCP Central Committee. The LPRP is the ruling party in Laos and the country is now serving as the chair of ASEAN.
At the meeting, Sounthone explained the Laotian government’s economic and foreign policies, noting that one of the key issues is the removal of unexploded bombs left from the Vietnam War. She added that she hopes both parties will strengthen their relations.
JCP Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo, also the JCP International Commission chair, talked about the characteristics of Japan’s politics and some points at issue in July’s Upper House election. With regard to international issues, he introduced the JCP initiative for creating peace and cooperation in Northeast Asia, referring to the JCP position regarding the issue of the disputed South China Sea and the abolition of nuclear weapons.
Both delegations confirmed that they succeeded in deepening mutual understanding through the meeting.
After the talks, JCP Chair Shii Kazuo met with Sounthone. The two agreed that both parties will work together to build peace in East Asia and to urge the global community to start negotiations on an international treaty placing a total ban on nuclear arms.
JCP Ogata attends reception for Cuba’s vice president
JCP Vice Chair Ogata Yasuo on June 2 attended a reception held in Tokyo to welcome Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudes, Vice President of the Council of State of Cuba.
Ogata exchanged greetings with the vice president and had relaxed conversations with other participants.
