Court nullifies dismissals of union workers at facility for disabled

The Tokyo District Court on August 10 issued a ruling nullifying the dismissals of union workers by an operator of a facility for the disabled.
The workers are officials of a union at the facility operated by a nonprofit corporation in Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward.
At this facility, many workers experienced “power harassment” from their boss and suffered unilateral dismissals. In September 2014, a branch of the National Union of General Workers (Zenkoku-Ippan), member of the National Confederation of Trade Unions (Zenroren), was organized.
The facility operator gave a dismissal notice to vice branch chair Nagao Mari and branch chair Matsuki Takashi in November and December respectively. The two union officials filed a lawsuit in 2015 demanding that their dismissals be invalidated.
At a press conference after the ruling, Matsuki and Nagao expressed their determination to continue working hard to eliminate illegal labor practices.
