The United States reduced the number of its bases around the world by 212 but firmly maintains its major bases in Japan. The Japanese government’s huge financial subsidy to the U.S. military is hampering the public moves to have these bases removed from Japan.

Top 2 brackets rake in 46% of income in Japan
The percentage rose by 3 percentage points from 42.6% in 1993. Meanwhile, average annual income of people in the bottom two income brackets dropped to about 70% of what was in 1993.

Japan should return to Kyoto Protocol without delay
Delegates to the U.N. conference on climate change held in Durban have finally reached an agreement to extend the Kyoto Protocol on reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and to adopt a new international accord by 2015. Japan, however, announced its disagreement with the extension, arousing worldwide criticism.
