Nouminren calls for overthrowing Abe gov’t for destroying domestic agriculture
|
The Japan Family Farmers Movement (Nouminren) on January 18 ended its three-day annual convention held in Tokyo. The convention unanimously adopted an action program calling for overthrowing the Abe Cabinet and fighting for a revival of Japan’s agriculture.
The congress was attended by about 300 delegates from all 47 prefectures in the country.
On the final day, Nouminren Secretary General Yoshikawa Toshiaki gave a concluding speech. He called on all members to have confidence in the increased cooperation with concerned citizens to block the TPP and continue to work to stop the Japanese government from concluding a bilateral free trade deal with its U.S. counterpart.
Yoshikawa also condemned the Abe administration for pushing ahead with policies that are destroying domestic agriculture and agricultural cooperatives across the nation. He called on attendees to work hard to develop a movement to galvanize Japan’s agriculture into one to bring down the Abe government.
The convention elected the new leadership. Nouminren Vice President Sasawatari Yoshio assumed the post of President.
