US ship-based plane drops a machine screw
|
A U.S. carrier-borne airplane belonging to the U.S. Atsugi naval base in Kanagawa accidently dropped an equipment part during flight. This became public after the Ministry of Defense on May 6 provided information of the incident to surrounding municipalities.
According to the information, the USS Ronaldo Regan-based electronic warfare aircraft of EA-18G Growler on May 4 lost one of its fixation screws used for the suspension device for bombs.
Regarding airborne drop accidents in the past involving U.S. military planes deployed at the Atsugi base, a metal part fell off from a flying FA-18E fighter jet and damaged a private home fence and a window of a parked car. Also, several duralumin panels flew out of an EA-6B electronic warfare aircraft and fell onto the roof of a car on a public road.
