Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on June 6 sent his congratulatory message to South Korea’s new Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon.
JCP Policy Commission Chair Kasai Akira (Lower House member) on the same day visited the South Korean Embassy in Tokyo to hand Shii’s message to Minister Lee Hee-sup.
The text of Shii’s message is as follows:
Mr. Lee Nak-yon
Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea
Please allow me to congratulate you on taking office as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea.
During the term of Prime Minister Lee, who expanded and deepened his insight and experience through his career as journalist, lawmaker, and the governor of South Jeolla Province, I hope that Japan-South Korea friendship will further develop and that the two countries’ activities aiming at peace and stability in East Asia will achieve progress. I also wish to further develop our relations.

Shii holds talks with Cuban Ambassador
Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo was invited by Cuban Ambassador Carlos Miguel Pereira to a dinner on June 7 at the Ambassador’s official residence in Tokyo.
Shii reported that in the March UN Conference to negotiate a nuclear weapons ban treaty, he held fruitful conversations with Cuban UN Ambassador Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo. He expressed his gratitude for Ambassador Pereira’s help to facilitate the JCP’s activities in NYC.
The ambassador introduced the fact that he was informed by the Cuban foreign ministry about the importance of opinions and remarks made by the JCP and other Japanese delegations in the UN conference.
The two welcomed the Draft Convention on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons which UN conference president Whyte released in preparation for the second session of the conference scheduled to begin on June 15. They agreed to strengthen their cooperation with the aim to have the draft adopted.
The two then held frank discussions on the current situation in Latin America
