JCP holds speech gathering to commemorate 95th anniversary of its founding

July 20, 2017
The Japanese Communist Party in the evening of July 19 held a speech assembly in Tokyo to celebrate its 95th founding anniversary.

About three hours before the venue opened, people started to gather around the building. One hour before the venue opened, the queue stretched out along the entire length of the building. A number of JCP supporters who volunteered to work for a JCP victory in the July 2 Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election also participated in the assembly. Under the situation where the JCP is squarely confronting PM Abe’s runaway policies attracts much attention, there were some first-time participants in this day’s speech event. The hall was full of enthusiasm.

All 19 JCP members who won in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election appeared on the stage and were introduced to the audience. Representing the 19 assembly members, Hara Noriko and Oyama Tomoko, who is the Secretary General of the JCP Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly Members’ Group, delivered speeches.

JCP Chair Shii Kazuo gave a commemorative speech focusing on the JCP advance in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election and the JCP contribution to the UN Conference on a nuclear weapons ban treaty. Fuwa Tetsuzo, the JCP Social Sciences Institute director, also delivered a commemorative speech on the 95-year history of the JCP.

JCP Secretariat Head Koike Akira presided at the speech gathering. The main hall was filled and the audience overflowed into sub halls. Shii and Fuwa in their speeches talked about the vitality of the JCP Program which increases its brilliancy under historic dynamics. The participants listened to the commemorative speeches by nodding emphatically and responded with unanimous applause. People who were thinking about becoming a JCP member visited the consultation booth at the venue. The live broadcast on the Internet was viewed at 1,057 locations nationwide.
