Last message of Nagasaki Hibakusha before his death translated into 8 languages

February 13, 2018
The Nagasaki Federation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers' Organizations (Nagasaki Hidankyo) and a group of Nagasaki citizens engaging in a Hibakusha-led signature drive sent out to the world the last message of Taniguchi Sumiteru, a Nagasaki Hibakusha who died in August last year, in eight languages.

With subtitles in English, French, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, Hangul, and Japanese, the two organizations have uploaded Taniguchi's video message to YouTube. They plan to subtitle Taniguchi's massage for viewers in India, Pakistan, and Israel - all nuclear weapons states.

An Arabic translator who cooperated with this caption project said, "I was glad to be of help to send the Hibakusha message to the world. I hope as many people as possible in the world become opposed to war."

Tomonaga Masao, a co-head of the Nagasaki citizens' group, said, "The new Nuclear Posture Review of the U.S. Trump administration increases the danger of initiating a nuclear arms race. It is extremely important for us to relate with first-hand testimonies the horror of the use of atomic bombs to the world."

The video can be found on YouTube with the search words "nagasaki hibakusha".
