JCP calls for denuclearizing Korean Peninsula and building peace structure in integrated manner
Kazuo Shii
Chair, Japanese Communist Party
Member of the House of Representatives of Japan
Tokyo
March 29, 2018
The Japanese Communist Party welcomed the recent summit meeting between China and North Korea as a move to promote a peaceful resolution of the North Korea issue through dialogue, along with the planned summit meeting between North and South Korea and a possible summit between the US and North Korea.
In the coming negotiations between the states concerned, it is important to promote the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the building of a permanent peace structure in the region in an integrated and comprehensive manner. As a road map to accomplish this, the joint statement of the Six-Party Talks issued on September 19, 2005 is still highly relevant. The JCP urges the countries concerned to resolve the issue in accordance with the joint statement.
The Japanese government should admit to the fact that its opposing stance to dialogue has completely failed and commit itself to supporting these dramatic moves toward a peaceful resolution based on the Six-Party Talks joint statement and the 2002 Japan-North Korea Pyongyang Declaration.
