US soldier in Okinawa sentenced to 4 years in prison for drunken driving accident that resulted in fatal casualty |
According to the court, the incident took place on November 19, 2017 in Naha City.
Nicholas James-Mclean, 22, who is deployed to U.S. Camp Kinser in Okinawa’s Urasoe City, drove a U.S. military vehicle under the influence of alcohol, entered the intersection of a national road when the light was red, and proceeded through the intersection. His car collided head-on with a small pick-up truck, killing the 61-year-old driver.

The Yamaguchi Police on April 11 arrested a U.S. soldier stationed at the U.S. Marine Iwakuni Base (Yamaguchi Pref.) on the spot for illegal possession of lock picking tools.
The police said that the 21-year-old corporal was detected possessing lock picking tools in violation of the law at Iwakuni Airport. The corporal admitted to the charge.
