JCP position on Palestine question

May 21, 2018
The Japanese Communist Party, regarding the question of Palestine, has consistently called for the following three principles to be implemented and enforced since 1970s:

- Israel should withdraw from all the occupied territories;
- Palestinians should be guaranteed their right to self-determination including the establishment of an independent state; and
- Both Palestinians and Israelis should recognize each other's existence and try to find ways for coexistence (2-state solution).

The JCP has been strictly opposed to the expansion of unlawful Israeli settlements in Palestine and has been pushing the Japanese government to recognize Palestine as a state.

U.S. President Donald Trump, by reversing the position taken by successive U.S. administrations, recognizes all of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and on May 14 relocated the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The JCP severely criticizes this action for not only violating UN resolutions pertaining to the settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but also for running counter to global efforts to work to find a fair solution to the issue and for peace and stability in the Middle East.

The JCP has also been demanding an immediate halt to Israel's brutal crackdowns such as the latest killing of Palestinian protesters immediately before and after the embassy was relocated.
