2,900 disabled persons' pensions already terminated

June 4, 2018
About 2,900 disability pension recipients who became disabled after age 20 have no longer received the pension benefits since April last year.

The revelation came during a House of Representatives welfare committee meeting in response from the Welfare Ministry to a question made by Japanese Communist Party lawmaker Takahashi Chizuko.

The 2,900 disability payment recipients became excluded from the pension program after the system to determine the degree of disability was changed.

JCP Takahashi referred to the issue of 1,010 disabled persons facing benefit termination, and pointed out, "The change in the system was supposed to be for rescuing those who had been eligible but had been denied access to the pension program, wasn't it?"

Takahashi demanded that the government take relief measures for all eligible persons with disabilities. Welfare Minister Kato Katsunobu, "We will implement necessary countermeasures."
