JCP Fujino promises to work to defend refugees
|
A sit-in protest against a revision bill allowing the deportation of foreigners who fled from danger took place on April 20 near the Diet building where the revision of the Immigration Control Act is being discussed.
Concerned citizens and several opposition party parliamentarians participated in this action organized by the Solidarity Network with Migrants Japan (SMJ or Ijuuren).
Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Representatives Fujino Yasufumi pointed out that the bill, if enacted, will make it possible to deport refugee applicants from Japan and will penalize those who refuse to obey deportation orders. He said, "Japanese democracy is called into question. Let us work together to help scrap the amendment bill!"
Torii Ippei, an Ijuuren representative director, said he hopes Japan will be a community where everyone can live in safety with dignity.
